1969 Mercruiser 160 SN 2497444. It moves down but won't come up unless I cross the two big posts on the solenoid mounted beside the trim motor. The switch checks out ok and I removed, cleaned and tightened all the connections pertaining to the trim. Does this mean it's the solenoid? If so, why does it go up but not down? It worked fine when I used it the last time last fall.
I'm scratchin my head here...
thanks.

Try pushing both the up and trim buttons at the same time if it works then it's the trim limit switch if not you have a broken wire of bad switch. If it's the limit switch either live with it or jump the switch the limit switchs didn't last very long and are a long repair

It won't work even when pushing both buttons at the same time. For some reason it's just not getting the up signal.

One thing I forgot to mention...it makes a clicking sound when I hit the switch. I didn't have anyone to help me yesterday so I couldn't pin down just exactly where the clicking was coming from.

If it clicks take something and arc around the solinoid big post to big post I think the pump will run then, if it does replace the solinoid

A new solenoid and all is well...with the trim anyway. Now on to that noise coming from the rear of the engine area that sounds like a rough bearing.
