Mercruiser 170 Ticking Noise

Anyway... think what you want about the 470 motor. It isn't the best engineered internal combustion engine by any stretch. However, the ones I run have served me well so far (fingers crossed ) and that's good enough for me.

I'll run mine till they either die or I sell my boat.

Benny you are my guy I have owned mine for 26 years and have spent about an hour freezeproofing it TOTAL. When your 3.0 is puking out "milkshake" in the spring tell me how great it is.

It is pretty sweet just to pull that plug on the exchanger after fogging the motor and call it a day at the end of each season...

Bottom line, these motors are lightweight powerhouses that are reasonably fuel efficient and reliable as long as you are not ignoring basic maintenance.
