Mercruiser 250 Temp Water flow Question

There was a home made 90* brass inlet into the thermostat housing that the prior owner rigged up. It was almost completely clogged with the pieces of impeller. I removed the 90* fitting since the inner diameter was smaller than the feed line and simply used a longer length of hose however if the same thing happens now I am concerned the piece could make it to the block. Was wondering if there was a screen or some type of 'filter' that I could put inline. I see that the power steering cooler is what tends to capture impeller pieces for engines that have them... but I don't.

There are filters that are made from a clear material that you could add in the supply line. They are usually used on larger yachts for the the refrigeration systems. They are probably available in your area.
