mercruiser 260 overheating! fresh water cooled

my starboard mercruiser 260 has started overheating, it is fresh water cooled, the resevoir seems to stay cool to the touch and is not losing coolant, the overheating began when the hot water system line that is spliced in to the engine cooling pipes split, i replaced it but did not resolve, i am wondering if there could be blockage in the hot water system and if its worth bypassing to diagnose..
there are also leaks coming from the large metal cylinders in the exhaust pipes. i have never seen these before they could be baffling or water locking units, there is not as much water exiting the exhaust of this engine compared to the other so i am wondering if this could be the problem or if it is more likely a stuck thermostat or riser problem...

1st pic is the hot water system in between the engines,
2nd, is the copper t piece between the cooling pipes of the engine that corroded through and i replaced, the red pipe goes to the hot water system.
3rd is the resevoir for the cooling system
4th is engine bay looking aft, the circled part is the only picture i have of the metal cylinders i tried to desrcibe, each of the 4 exhaust pipes goes from the riser through this upright cylinder and back out through the transom. the ones on the overheating engine are leaking and there is minimal water exiting through the exhaust however it has always been like this and used to run fine without o/heating...

Ayuh,.... Post up some pictures of what yer talkin' 'bout....

Changin' the raw water Impeller is Always the 1st step in an Overheat situation....

was going to start at the impellor just seemed like a big coincidence that it started o/heating the same time the pipe connection broke (it was rusted through) also the fact that there is not as much water exiting the exhaust on this engine compared to the other...

Ayuh,... If the impeller is Beat, it can't move as much water....

You could pull the Risers, 'n check for rust restrictions...

Re: mercruiser 260 overheating! fresh water cooled

in a closed water cooled system i am going to assume the impellor is located at the bottom of the engine driven by one of the the drive belts? there seems to be no easy way to access this unit if there is any hints and if i need to remove the whole thing to crack it open and access the impellor?
my system seems to go..
seawater intake--->Vdrive cooling--->seawater pump--->heat exchanger
does this seem correct?

Ayuh,.... sounds right....

The raw water pumps moves the water into the system, 'n if the riser passages are plugged, the water can't get out....
