Piston rings will be ok, but gaskets need to be marine. Standard gasket is made of steel. He don't last too good in saltie stuff. :D

This might be a good reason to install closed cooling on the "new" engines. Also, if 292 "marine" head gaskets aren't available, I believe the 250 gaskets will fit........might be worth checking it out. You can probably find a marine head gasket for them

Same part number (27-47453)....

When I was "hot" to replace my old 150 Mercruiser (230 cu-in GM) with a 292, I found out that even the heads are interchangeable between the 230/250/292 engines.

Some of the differences were in the mounting and the deck height (292).

If your in the engines for a rebuild, look into a lump port conversion. it will really wake up the grunt power of the engine by improving cylinder filling.
