Mercruiser 3.0 Reliability?

Thinking about buying a 2005 Bayliner 175 with the Mercruiser 3.0 in it.

This is a 4 banger? Looks like it from the pics.

Having had a VOlvo Penta I want something a bit more reliable and cheaper to fix should it ever need it....

Is this fuel injected, throttle body, or carbuerator??

It is a 4 banger and is a simple, dependable engine. Easy to work on and parts are easy to find. Nothing in a boat is "cheap" (at least not in dollars ) but the parts will be typically more inexpensive than others - like Volvo.

Same base engine as the VOLVO penta 3,0 (it`s a GM Vortec 3000 4 cylinder)

It is a rather simple engine carburated etc.

And yes if maintained it is very reliable

The drive is a Mercruiser Alpha one gen 2 also a bulletproff choice very reliable and in numbers the most common stearn drive in the world

4 banger is enough to pull a tuber and go drive around Puget Sound.

Just need to make time to go look at it!!

NOPE. A skiier never has enough power. Prepare to be disappointed.

I'd be more worried about the reliability and condition of the hull, than the engine. Bayliners are notorious for floor/stringer rot, etc...

I had a 1986 boat that was JUST starting to see that. it lasted 20 years.

This boat I'm looking at is a 2005 that has been garaged except when in use.

Going to go look at it soon though....

Check the oud rive oil. Check the motor oil. Look at his records.Maintained right the engine will outlive you.

Make sure you take a test ride.

Okie Dokie. Just saying... That engine is more solid than most hulls, let alone a Bayliner.

If it's been stored indoors, or had a good cover, everything's probably hunky-dory.

Of course, ANY boat that's not cared for properly, will not hold up as long.

The fact that it's a relatively new hull will probably be in your favor though.
