Re: Mercruiser 3.0l cuts off at high revs.

UPDATE *****

I have now had the boat into yet another lot of mechanics and they have tried various fuel pumps including an electric conversion. Still no joy.

So, they then said IT MUST BE THE LIFTERS so I tentitively said go ahead then and replace them. ($500). And gues what, made no sodding difference - still have exactly the same problem. (total bill not in the region of $1700 +). Im getting so sick of paying out on this engine with mechanics that cant give me the answer.

What else could possibly be wrong.

Did you ever do the test I mentioned in reply #27? Have you ever verified that the static timing and total advance timing are correct? You have the EST distributor, so no point, and you must put it in base timing mode to set and check the base timing. I am beginning to think your lifter rattle is actually pinging and you are about to blow holes in your pistons.
What do the spark plugs look like?
