Mercruiser 3.0L start on stand - wiring

Hi all,

Read and asked a couple of questions about running an engine on a stand.

All set to go except for the wire running to the coil. A few guys hook up a 12V connection and then disconnect it to stop the engine. My coil is different from most of the videos I've seen, so how would I got about it? Where do I put the 12V constant?

Mine is basically this: Ignition Coil for Volvo Penta 3854002-7, Mercruiser 817378T, OMC Sterndrive/Cobra 3854002, Crusader 7243200, GLM 72113 - Sierra 18-5443

Ayuh,.... On the Positive(+) side of that coil,...

Probably a purple wire,...

Hi Bondo,

So trace the end of the purple wire and crocodile clip the 12V constant there? There isn't really an exposed bit on the coil to attach to.

Ayuh,... Have ya got an electric choke,..?? isn't there a purple wire hooked to it,..??

Go there, 'n it'll still feed the coil,... the purple wires are the ignition circuit,...

Ah yes, traced the wires with the wiring diagram.

My mercarb has red/purple stripe and black/yellow stripe wires, plain purple goes to the shift cutout which I'll jump together, I guess I could feed the 12V in there.
