You are also going to need an exhaust Y that attaches to your transom shield, and don't forget to change the gear ratio in your outdrive.

If it's a fibreglass hatch, just cut it down the centre and widen it by 2". Set a sheet of ali in the middle and start glassing.

Agreed, make the lid bigger, BTW - achris, good to see you active again.

Make sure to leave enough room for repairs and maintinance(plugs, starter, winterizing) It would be a shame to have to pull the engine out just to do a tune up.

Adding some width to the dog house is a good idea.

One thing I have noticed on some of the smaller new boats is that the seating arrangement has to be different for certain engines. For example, the 3.0 on some boats can be had with this type of seating:

On some models if you upgrade to a 4.3 or bigger they make you get the second pic type of seating arrangement.

The second pic would require you to completely change the back seating of your boat. It might not be worth it but it might make engine access better. As ENSIGN points out, you're going to want to be able to reach parts that require service. On some boats the whole bench seat and lounging/tanning area can be on one hinge. Easy engine access on a set up like that.
