I have a 86 Celibrity 210 Cutty with my Mercruiser 350 5.7 has crack in block .just below heads Does anyone know where I can find a not so expensive replacement? What do you think of replacing with a nonMarine engine? Does anyone have a low cost solution to get back to running. I was thinking of trying to find a used replacement any good resources in New Jersey area
thank you

I just had a block redone locally, Ryan Machine, Matawan area, boiled, rods, new pistons, bearing and gasket package, oil pump, heads reconed.
$1258.00
If all you need is a block ,an auto one is fine with all the marine items installed.

I do not know if you had the same problem as I had , the previous owner did not winterize the boat, and the manifold and the block cracked on one side. Dealing with the manifold was easy but a pain in the butt and expensive, (just replace).
The block was another question, it had cracked just above the center frost plug. I had three choices weld or plug with liquid weld goop or just leave it and let the rust and particles in the water pug it. If you weld it grind past the ends of the crack, preheat and use a good quality welding rod that is made for cast iron, you have a 50 50 chance that it will hold.
The liquid weld goop about the same just clean the crack good before applying.
I left mine alone and am down to about 4 drips a minute ( 1 cup an hour?)
good luck

Re: Mercruiser 350 5.7 Block Cracked What Now

Thanks for your reply I am new to this forum, I didn't know I had a response till I googled cracked block and saw my Post . LOL

My crack almost seems like a buckle out like a little lip. I wanted to peg it with pipe plugs and pipe dope but I think it's possible. It's almost like a long hole. I think I screwed on this one. If it was a midway crack without a lip out I would attempt to peg it . It's also just too close to heads. I am supposed to look at a motor tomorrow basiclly a shortblock with roller lifters supposedly under 50 hrs, Has heads and aluminum manifold . Yes a marine engine. I'm pretty much of a part changer rather than a mechanic. But I think I can handle this one But the only way for me to have these toys is to lay down on my back and fix myself . It would be really nice to lay down several thousand and take to a Marina but that is not an option.
The guy wants around 800. for motor and he wont budge He says this is a give this ain't no car engine.
Any advice on the swap I already got the Throttle and choke cables off labeling and putting nuts back where they came from, Disconnected power cable most stuff in visible site. I have to disconnect power steering and fuel line. I have exhaust elbows off and basically going to move to the back of motor. not to mention the mounting bolts. the back is my concern. the alpha drive is off. He mentioned something about being careful with coupler?? I just don't want to screw this up. I have the kids swing set I built that everyone wants gone. LOL and a 2000lb electric winch. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Any advice what to look for on this motor too.
Thank you
