Ay
Insurance premium's in Canada seem to be based on horsepower.
Of all the info i had on paper,i didn't know the hp.
Must be tagged on the engine somewhere under the mooring tarps :p

Can ne1 tell me the hp for 1988 mercruiser 350 Mag ?
Googles spit out 260 or 270

Thanks in advance

The 260/270hp ratings are from the timeframe where many mfgs rated at the crank. From 90's on they are rated at the prop. When it comes to insurance companies, it doesn't pay to use the marketing number. ;) You would have to check your serial number, but believe your '88 would be covered by Merc Service Manual #17, which shows only 250hp at prop. Don't know if that 10hp will save you anything worthwhile in premiums.

I have a 1988 Mercruiser Magnum 350. The HP is 270. The regular 350 has 260hp. The Magnum also has steel pistons, steel crank shaft and a high rise manifold. The regular 350 has cast pistons and crank.

And the only difference between the regular and the magnum was the intake manifold and some stickers.

NO steel crank.
NO forged pistons.
NO super secret magic camshaft.......

And furthermore, as explained, that 270 is at the crank, not the propshaft, as they are now rated.

Service manual #9 covers 85-88 v8's

Page 1B-3 lists both the regular and magnum as 260hp. This is at the crank, so prop shaft hp would be 230hp.

Ditto. Long block is identical. As to the above intake is differant and the jets and metering rods in the qjet.
