Hi, I have a Bayliner 175 with an inboard Mercruiser 3lt 135HP 2003 model, I have a problem with the prop thrust when turning the boat either way, in that the engine rev's higher and it sound like a car clutch slipping with the trust from the prop?, not sure if this is caused by a clutch of sorts? but pulling a wake boarder out of the water with the trim set at a quarter causes the engine to rev higher and a loss of thrust until the trim is brought down to it's lowest setting please can anyone shed some light into this???? Is it normal???

That's why they have a trim button, so you can adjust to conditions.

You are trimmed too high. For skiing and wake boarding, trim the leg all the way IN for take-off and as the speed increases, trim out slightly to stop 'bow-steering'.

Chris..........

Good advise, but that doesn't explain why the prop looses power when turning, or the engine revving quicker until I re-trim the stern leg or is this normal? is there a clutch type assemble in the gearbox ???? thanks for your help.

When you turn real sharp, the prop comes out of the water. Think about how the boat tips.

It explains it perfectly! The prop doesn't lose power, it loses grip on water, because air is being sucked in.

The clutch in the leg is a dog clutch.

Chris..........

Just throwing a "third" vote behind the previous posts. Trimming up a "quarter" is a-lot when not pulling anything.....pulling a tube or skier and turning....get that drive down.
