mercruiser 4.3 turns off after 10 minutes

Hello all,


'97 searay sundancer 290 twin 4.3 mercruisers with alpha one gen 2 outdrives. Port engine will run for about ten to fifteen minutes on plane then turn off. It will start right back up but die again within 30 seconds to a minute. If you leave it off for about ten minutes it will turn back on run for about another 6-8 minutes on plane and then die again. Engine temp and oil pressure gauges show no issues there. We bought the boat about 70 miles away, had it running fine for about 50 miles, then it was on and off the rest of the way home with the port engine. Problem replicates every time we take it out. Marina mechanics were useless and after making us wait four weeks said they could not replicate the issue and found no problems.

If your ignition trigger is the original 2-wire version. I would look there. They updated to a 3-wire version almost 20 years ago
