Hi, I have a problem with my 4.3 V6 Mercruiser engine. The engine is around the year 2000, and is the EFI model, with the full Delco EST ignition system, (not thunderbolt)
The problem is that the ignition module that sits just under the distributer cap at the back keeps failing, the engine runs great with no other problems that I can see, then just cut out with no spark, and obviously never restarts, took a bit of time initially to find the fault but tracked it down to the ignition module and replaced it, engine ran fine for a couple of hours then went down again, replace the module engine goes again straight away. I have put 4 of these in now this season, so it?s not just bad luck or the odd dodgy unit, something is causing these units to fail but I can't work out what. If anyone has experienced this before or can shed any light I would be very great full.
Thanks
Ian

I asked for a serial number in your other thread, never got one.

Hi, I don't have a serial number I'm afraid, the plate is missing from my engine.

Replace the ignition coil, this is the #1 reason for module failure. Also make sure the ground wire is attached and the heat conducting grease is used under the module
