Doctur- Thats a good Idea, I may try that. I realized after I read the manual, that the 1/4" would matter.

I live in Syracuse, NY, but wouldn't want you to go to the trouble of sending me the cable core unless I could pay you for it.

Do you think it would work, or is it just kind of a crapshoot?

Considering the other works that's needed you have time to try it. likely less than 4.00 to mail a soft pack. Then you can plan to read up on changing the cable in the fall.

Doctur- That video was great. Helped me understand how the parts worked together. Took the boat out for a test drive this morning, and the shift cables are definitely still out of adjustment. I'm going to mess with them a little more before I decide to either try to slide in a new cable core, or just take the time and change it the right way. If you want to send me that core with slide, my address is:

The good news is that the engine temp. was a good 40 degrees lower today after putting in the new impeller, which is how this whole shift cable fiasco started.

I also just started reading about installing the new exhaust flapper, and the first sentence about it in the manual said "after removing the engine and the drive" is that really how it is done?

Yeah it can be difficult, but if you loosen all of the clamps you should have enough " wiggle room" to get the bellows free by working them down. Did you get new grommets too, (#5 here) https://www.mercruiserparts.com/Sho...473.png&inbr=908&bnbr=230&bdesc=EXHAUST+ELBOW , chances are they are gone too. If you need to install new ones stuff a rag below the keep them from dropping into the exhaust til you get them firmly in place, it can be a pain getting them out if you drop one, don't ask me how I know.

To the experts..... After some more tinkering, I have the shift cables adjusted so that I have good solid engagement in forward and reverse (at least on the trailer).

The next page in the manual after the cable adjustment procedure is titled "Reverse lock valve adjustment"

My questions, I guess, are... What does the reverse lock valve do? and Do I need to adjust it after adjusting the shift cables?
