I say yes and no...mine started without a slave solenoid, but many other times would just click. I'm not sure how great your wiring is but you may or may not get away with it. The slave solenoid I'm using is a starter solenoid from a 67 Ford Mustang for 14 bucks... Even if it does work I'd say put a slave solenoid on it just to ease the load on some of the wires...

So do the new starters with the solenoid on them require more power from the ignition switch to close the contacts? Is that why it requires a slave solenoid?

Thinking of doing this on my 470... just trying to wrap my head around it.
