Recently got impeller replaced correctly and water is comming through to the engine, but apparntly not sufficient to keep cool. Today I put it in water to see if it would run with out over heating and noticed something I had not heard before. Right at the top of cover plate, above impeller where the trim cable is, I could hear air blowing out and could see water spitting out. My guess is that is not supposed to happen and this could be causing decreased water pressure. Would you agree? If so could this be welded to fix crack in cover or do I need to find replacement cover plate?

Thanks

Ayuh,....

Spearman,... You've got an old 1 that nobody sees anymore,...
'ell,... I've only seen 1 in my whole life...

I guess you've just gotta Try whatever it takes to keep it running,..
As I doubt there's awhole lotta parts out there available for it....

I'd say welding or an epoxy is about your only choices,+ I happen to like welding Better...

Good Luck....

Re: Mercruiser 80 Running hot

Bond-O,

Thanks for your prior responses regarding my Mercruiser issues. I know I've got an old one and my hope is to restore it. As I have stated in prior posts the boat is in great shape and I'm down to one issue of overheating. Still have not resolved that yet and I'm at a loss. Boat will stay cool with garden hose directly to block and water now pushes through from stern drive, when in water or on hose, but I guess the presure is just not enough. I'm going to try and find the upper housing assembly with new seals. If that doesn't do it I'm done.
I know I should probably put this out in new thread and I may. Do you know if there is a collectors market out there for this type of boat? I'm sure there only a few original Mecruiser 80 still running out there. I've attached a few picutures if you want to see.

Thanks,

Spearman
