You probably want the SEI116 as a direct replacement for your gen II. You probably have a 1.47 gear ratio. To make sure, check the upper port side of your outdrive, the serial number and gear ratio should be stamped there. BTW it is not easy to find them on i boats LOL.

Agree, and I am forwarding comments. Drove me flippin' nuts . . . :(

Plus they are $4 more  :) That eBay link appears to be a factory outlet of SEI's.

How is the correct way to see the diffrent gear ratios in an alpha one gen ll outdrive??

Can you just take the top cover off and count the gears??

Also are the gears all the same in the lower end on all ratios??

So can you have a 1.47 geared upper housing and rob the lower housing from a outdrive with a 1.81 gear ratio and it still work? OR is the lower housing have to be geared as a 1.47?

My poorly made point was that it is not a reason to exclude iboats, but hardly seems worth it to show any difference. Seems like a mistake to me. Comments have been sent. Thanks.

I believe that is correct. It appears that the only difference in lower units is the direction prop rotation. Standard is clockwise. Must be same generation of outdrive.

QC i understand what you are saying but Iboats is 1600(1499 +100 shipping) vs 1300 (free shipping)in the ebay link. 300 is a big differece for me. The whole reason is I have a guy that i know that has an aplha 1 gen 2 outdrive and the whole transom assy and gimbal housing. I was going to make sure that the gears were the correct ratio. Where is the ratio stamped on the housing?? Can I take the top cover off and actually count the teeth on the gears??

Double check that, I think you are comparing Alpha 1 at the ebay site to Alpha 1 Gen II on iboats. 1295 vs 1495ish on both . . . The iboats site makes that less obvious.

OK got another question. Went to look at an outdrive today. It was an alpha one gen 2 but the gear ratio was a 1.84R. What would that come off of?

The link to the chart with ALL of the gear ratios is here again: http://www.seilermarine.com/info/mercruiser-drive-ratio-chart.htm That particular ratio would be off of a 3.7 L four cyl, or maybe a 205 V6. All are pre 1990, and thus would be an Alpha I gen I , You need a Alpha I gen II (post 1990) to be correct for your application.
