need a little help here guys,
took the boat out yesterday , after running around for about one hour the engine just suddenly shut off, i turn the key on nothing, no power, i check the key switch fuse and it was blown, i stick in another and it just blown again, the stripers was jumping and i realy want to catch a few so i bypass the key by jump a wire from the positive side of the battery, use a clip on the other end i clip it to

the plus side of the coil use a screwdriver i then jump the slave solenoid and get it running,

after i drop anchor i pull the clip from the coil and it shut off.

after i fish for about a an hour i install back a new fuse in the holder again, this time it did not blown so i was happy, as soon i i pull anchor and put the boat in gear it blow the fuse again , iso i just clip on the jumper to the coil and she runs home fine.

what could cause this to happen, i search for any loose wire in the harness , i clean and tighten all connectors i fount one wire on the fuel guage that was real loose, i tighten that, put back a new fuse, turn the key and she start and runs fine i bump it in gear while tied up on the dock it still runs fine.

what could cause such a things guys.

Re: mercruiser blowing egnition fuse

Howdy,

The wire is shorting out somewhere somwhere between the fuse and the coil..... or the coil is intermittently internally shorting out.

Disconnect the wire from the coil and find the short. Since you bypassed the wire and directly powered the coil, you effectively ruled out the coil. It could even be in the switch...

Cheers,

Rick
