I'm having problems with slow shifting and stalling on shifting on my Mercruiser 120 (1973).

What I've learned so far is that this if often a symptom of problems with the cut out switch (shift interrupt switch).

I cleaned up and lubed the switch, and it seems to be "making" properly on each cam.

The fork-shaped shift plate that actuates the cut out switch has a threaded hole with what looks like a rubber grommet. There is no bolt in there, but my manual refers to a "cut out switch lever screw". Just a line drawing and some instructions on adjusting it. I have a feeling the previous owner may have lost it or left it out.

Anybody know what that screw/bolt looks like? In the drawing it looks like a regular hex head bolt. The hole looks to be 1/4-20 or 1/4-28 thread.

Re: Mercruiser cut out switch lever screw

I am lubing up and checking the cable this weekend.

But what about that threaded hole in the cut out switch lever plate? It sure looks like there ought to be a bolt in there, and the manual refers to a "cut out switch lever adjustment screw".

My local dealer has already said the switch is too old to get a replacement (turns out that's not what I need, anyway), so I don't think he'll be much help on this part.

Find a repitally dealer to start with, you can lube and mess around with that cable for hours (we have all played that game), Bondo has given you the only fix for the problem Change The Cable--Bob
