Hello guys
Have a quick question here. I did an upgrade on an older boat. went from an alpha to a bravo. i bought a new housing and bravo outdrive. I then noticed an oil leak coming from the oil reservoir hook up on the housing. So i bought This kit here and hooked it up. my boat originally never had the oil reservoir bottle. My question is it has two wires coming from the bottom of the reservoir, What do they hook to? Oil temp guage or do i need to buy a sender switch? thanks for your help

Howdy,

I did the same thing except I removed an OMG (it's a) King Cobra and replaced it with a Merc engine & BravoIII

That's simply a "Make & Break" switch.

One wire goes to ground and the other goes to a light or buzzer that is connected to 12v when the key is on.

When the oil level gets below a certain level, it grounds the wire to the light/buzzer and actuates it.

You can do what you like with it....even not connect it if desired. I have the same set up. I will probably use a piezoelectric buzzer and a light for each sensor. that way I'll know which sensor is actuated. (temp, oil, drive oil)

Regards,

Rick

kool thanks rick
I did not even put any oil in the bottle yet but i noticed that oil from the "OD" has made its way into the bottle. I do have the "OD tilted all the way up. Is it bad to leave it like this? And does that oil reservoir oil the upper and lower units?

Well,

Most people will suggest that you leave the drive "down" so that you don't stretch the bellows and possibly allow water to collect in the drive from rain...

If it's an older drive you need to have a look at Mercury #11 service manual or #28 for newer ones. Have a look at the "Adults Only" thread above for the manuals.

The manual suggests a certain level after the drive is filled and the bubbles work their way out...
