Hello, everyone: I'm new to this site, but not to boats. I'm presently refurbishing a 1986 SunRunner with a 305 Mercruiser engine. The engine is shot and I can get a used 1983 305 in good condition at a reasonable price. Money is an issue. My question is this. I have an Model I outdrive from my previous boat (I had thought it was an Alpha), a 1980 Classic, which had a 5.7/260 Mercruiser in it. The outdrive is perfect, except for the paint. Can I used the outdrive on my present boat? The boat manual calls for a 1.5/1 drive, which this is. The mounting bolt patterns are the same. The trim/tilt bushing sizes are different, but I don't think that's a real problem. Suggestion? Comments?

Re: Mercruiser outdrive match

Welcome to iBoats.

The drive should bolt straight up to the bellhousing without any problems.

Cheers,

Chris........

Ayuh,..........

About Any of the small Merc drives from about the Mid-60s up to 1991 will bolt right on to your bellhousing,+ Run........

Aside from Gear Ratios of course..............

Yep bolt right up and if you need a very low hr. 305. I`m in Patchogue and have one in great shape cheap. Heads have been smoothed w/ roller tip rockers. No junk great engine only reason I took it out is I got a 350 for free.

Thanks everyone. I was fairly certain it would bolt up but I guess I just needed some reassurance. Flukinicehole: I'm in Medford! We're neighbors. Email me at littlebookworm at optonline dot net with details. If the one I'm looking at doesn't pan out, I will definitely be interested in yours. Hy.
