Hi, I have a Mercruiser 3.0 gen II. Shifter interrupter switch was stuck and replaced.
Nothing else was changed. Now the shift interrupter switch is not engaging. On the shift interrupter plate I have tried all possible settings by turning the cable adjuster nut all the way in and out also the thread on the cable in and out. Only have been able on certain settings to have the switch engage when shifting to reverse. Shifts perfectly into Forward, Neutral and reverse, just not activating the interrupter switch Should I be looking somewhere else ?

You do know it isn't suppose to work unless you are in water, and coming out of gear into neutral. It should not work on land on a trailer or stands.

Check out these two links from the sticky post at the beginning of this forum:

Are you doing all this testing on the trailer with flushers?

Plus one for the above. Very common for guys to get confused with its operation. Some think it should operate going into both gears. Rather than coming out of gear perhaps.
With regards to the expectation that normal operation of a boat should be expected on a trailer…also common. But not the case.
I remember as a younger man…having a panic about buying a boat after hearing it going into gear on the trailer. What a clunk she made. Not a sound off her in the water though. Long story short…only way to test or find the truth of a boat is when it’s in the water. Just my thoughts anyway.

Hi Chris,
I am doing this on the trailer, out of the water and engine off.
Would it work with running engine with flushers onland , or must it be
in the water ?
Thank you.

MUST be in the water, moving forward, with the prop under load (not in an 'over-run' condition)

The interrupt switch should NEVER trip with the boat out of the water..

Have you read the write up on how the shift system works?

Chris.......
