That fin on the anode is supposed to help correct the engines tendancy to pull. The rotation of the engine is causing the pull at higher rpms... Newtons third law of motion... Does your friends boat have power steering? I have an old boat that has always pulled at high rpms... I have tried to correct it and have never been able to. I just deal with it.. I get a workout.... by september my biceps are huge!...

Definately try some added out trim. With it down too far you're not only trying to push the boat but lift it as well. Lots of strain there.

Re: mercruiser stiff stering at speed help

thanks guys, yes it does has a power stering , i dont hear the pump making any sort of noise so i figure it is not broken, my previous boat did also has the power stering set up, the first year i install the fin anode, the last year i use only the flat one it still work fine.

from what i heard if the boat has power stering you dont realy need that fin anode the flat one should work.

so thats what i did, i took off the fin and install the flat and it still

get stiff at speed, if the boat is at rest in the slip or at no wake i can turn the wheel with one finger, that puzzel me.

i will try trim up the motor a bit and see i will also puee the high power stering hose and start the engine and see

Re: mercruiser stiff stering at speed help

just came back from the narina, first i grease all the fittings pivot point ect, took it out for a cruise, i trim it up a bit, same thing.

i then took off the power stering high presure hose, which is the big one. i then start the engine, fluid was spewing out not from the hose itself but from the hole where the hose screw into , it was spewing with lots a presure. so i ges the pump is working, or maybe the fluid was sopose to be coming from the hose it self..

correct me on this guys.
