I have really enjoyed this forum and although I have been boating for years I have learned much already from all of you. Thank you in advance for helping me out with this question.I just purchased a boat with a 1983 2.5 120 horsepower mercruiser with a alpha one drive. It has a throttle that says morse on it. On the throttle it has a release right under the handle to put it in gear and a trim switch on the outside for the outdrive. On the other I/O's that I have had in the past the throttle had a button that you could push to idle without engaging the gears. On this one I do not see a button to push to hold the throttle open while starting. Please advise on how to open the throttle while starting.
Thank you again.

Re: mercruiser throttle

vogelsnest,

Welcome to iboats! I believe that type of control can be pulled "out" towards the center of the boat along the pivot point. When it is in the out position the mechanism operates the throttle only. You simply need to grab the base of the unit and gently tug on it and it should slide out. Give that a try, I am pretty sure it will be clear when you play with it . . .
