It was either 2003 or 2004. Your 96 doesn't have it. Be thankful you don't have it.

I am sorry, but I have to either disagree with you Don, or ask you for a specific example. Because for the 2007 model year, TKS became standard on every carbureted Mercruiser Sterndrive. And all the things I read indicated it was "brand new" technology. Never had been on Mercruisers before.
But either way, it definately was not available in 1996.

Yea, I shouldn't have put 2003 in it at all. The TKS manual (#41, not online) came out in December of 94 and is for all 94 and newer engines. I also installed twin 3.0L TKS engines in a boat in the summer of 06.

Turn key start works great. You turn the key and it starts just like they say. What they forgot to tell you is that you still have to pump the throttle a time or two before you turn the key. Or, like mine, you have to start it at fast idle speed.

I have it on my 2005 and no dealer can explain the total function of it. It is another problematic device. I have followed the testing procedure to the fullest and cannot find anything wrong with it but, still doesen't work.

Hi. Maybe you can tell me what is wrong with mine if all the componets check out fine.

It's another marketing tool that appears to be designed to make mechanics look bad. Salesman tells customer it will start just like EFI, customer complains it's broke when it doesn't, mechanic can't make it work like the salesman said it would.
