I have a Mercruiser Alpha One the lower boot from the transom to the lower unit is broke in two. Is this boot just for the exhaust? Is it important to replace immediately or can I wait until the end of season?

The bottom boot is exhaust bellow top is u-joint bellow. If it was my boat i would replace immediately along with the others, Not sure of any damaged caused by running it like that its there for a reason

bottom bellows, is exhaust and some cooling water exit to/through the prop.. You will not damage anything by running it like that, but I would definately look closely with a good light at the condition of the little shift cable bellows and Upper U-joint Bellows ( you definately dont want water in there ) and holes in either will get water into the boat.

FYI the lower Bellows on OMC Cobras have HOLEs along the entire bottom and you can get a SHORTY Rubber Boot for some Mercruiser Drives. No noticeable performance loss as far as I know either. ( mine isn't connected to the drive side )

I had just replaced all the boots a little over a year ago the others look fine but for some reason this one has split in two
