this past Saturday I took the boat out after like a month and a half of sitting at the marina. It all started fine... after like 20 minutes and maybe 10 at 4600 rpm I hear a loud steady alarm. I immediately stop completely, turn off engine and see that the temperature is through the roof . It was at like 225F. This has never happened before. I let the boat sit for like another 20 minutes and turned the key. at this point the alarm did not sound and temperature had dropped a little so I decided to turn on the engine.
I turn on the engine and the temperature immediately started to decrease very fast. In less than 1 minutes it was like usual when in neutral. I decided to get going again and the temperature kept steady like at 150F if I kept it at 3800 rpm.
my question is, aside from changing the impeller, what else do I need to take a look at? I will be changing the impelled with a friend tonight. Sterndives.com recommends having the drive resealed if I believed that I got too hot and checking the upper and lower pump housing. how do I do this? what exactly am I looking for?
