Im redoing my boat and repowering with a new vortec block. My engine is pretty much all new.But the wiring is a mess. The old engine has had a fire at some point as the shift interrupt switch, wireness plug and circuit breaker has melted rubber and some wires have rubber burnt off,I also have some loose wires. There is also some blue stuff at the connectors from copper corroding. The engine runs ok and shifts fine, but I would like to remove the weak link as the engine and drivetrain is going to be new.

The original engine was a 130hp mercruiser, sorry dont have anymore info.It was later changed to a mercruiser 4.3 lx and now im rebuilding it with a vortec block. The boat is a glastron sierra 199 from 1990.I dont know from which engine the wiring is from. The boat has faria gauges which seems to be working fine.It has the thunderbolt IV ignition. There is one water temperature switch and one oil pressure switch on the engine. The plug has 10 connections but it looks like only 9 are used.

I have a pink wire from the alternator with no connection(?),a tan wire with blue stripes that goes with the tan wire to the water temperature switch,a black wire(?) that has burned up near the wireness plug. And then a wire which color I Cant remember but it is taped together with the oil pressure wire.So to summarize I have 4 wires with no connection and I want to know are they needed.

I will get pics as soon as the rain stops.I would like to replace all the wires if there is a replacement? Also what purpose does the ignition breaker serve? How universal are mercruiser wiring?

Re: Mercruiser wiring

Thnak, that looks like it would be the right one.I will talk to the people on ebasic to confirm it.

Still,I would like to know what the extra wires are for.Does the thunderbolt IV ignition use some extra sensors(that I dont have) to adjust advance or what. The manual is very universal when it comes to electrics, and my engine is a mixup is of three different manuals, which makes it hard to know what to get.

Its been raining all day but I get pics tomorrow.
