MerCrusier 5.0 Alfa One

I have a couple of questions about the alfa one 5.0. <br />1.After de-winterization how soon can the boat be used, and what are the concerns untill water temp is over 50? <br />2.Can that engine setup be changed out, with a chevy engine from a truck or car?

Start it up and let the fogging oil burn off and you can use it immediately.some like to change out their spark plugs after the initial start up because they may be fouled.Water temp is not a concern if the thermostat is working correctly.

The boat was winterized by a pro tech at the local marina. So the oil was changed and the initial burn off will be done already. Along with plug change and tune-up. I was just wondering about after pulling the boat out of current water temps in north Indiana, is there any concern for block cracking? And how do I prevent cracks if it is a concern? Or any other care tips. As you can tell this is my first time with an I/O. My other boat is an outboard. Also was wondering, when the time comes for a repower, can the billows and other marine engine parts be placed on a chevy engine from a car or truck? As I said I am new to I/O but understand mechanics fairly well. Any bites?

OK quick update to reply the boat runs great. Just wondering for future of boat life it is an 1988 CELEBRITY 19' BOWRIDER W/5.0L alfa one I/O and engine "looks" old http://photos.yahoo.com/hayesclan2@sbcglobal.net

You still have a chance of below freezeing temps SO the block and manifolds and power steering cooler should be drained until overnight temps are 100% safe in your area<br /><br />Enough time at 31 deg and POP<br /><br /><br />tommays

Exactly,.........<br />You Should have Atleast 4 drains,...... 1 in each side of the Block,....<br />And,.. 1 in each Exhaust Manifold,......... Which are Looking Awfully Rusty,..Btw..<br />You should also disconnect the Incoming Waterline from the outdrive At the P/S Cooler,.... <br />And,... Disconnect the BIG Hose from the Engine's Recirculating Water Pump...........<br /><br />When the Time Comes,......<br />You'll need to Replace This much of your Driveline,............<br />Everything Else, is Pretty Much Reusable,...........<br />

<br />All of the Orange part of it is What you'll Need............. The Silver part is Optional...........

Cool, Is there anywhere that I can go to get info on the how-to's and the do's and dont's for I/O's? I would not know off hand, how to drain water from a marine engine. I know they dont have radiators so they have to circulate lake water (LOL) but, draining? Should I pull the boat out of the water. Start up for 15 seconds to blow water out, or is there a "RIGHT" way to do it? I really dont want to ruin a great summer by blowing up the engine. Outboards, I know. Just being carfull for my first season with her.

That's what I mean,......... DON'T Do That...........<br /><br />The Right Way,........ Is to Open the Drains,+ Remove the Hose Ends.............

Never start an i/o out of the water unless you have a water source to the o/d on BEFORE you turn the key.So forget about the "15 second blow out".Personally I would not bother starting the motor until you are beyond the chance of a hard freeze.

OK, LOL (your not being rude) I DO need to find out more. I have always came here for ALL of my info on boats. Iboats helped me become an acomplished "outboarder". And I knew I could count on Iboats to help me with my new I/O. Thanks!!! I was not planing on putting the boat in as of yet,( I have not taken it to the marina for de-winterization yet). The 15 sec, blow out was something I heard at work LOL. I just want to learn as much as possible BEFORE I put her in! Just to follow up on the freeze issue, are the drains in a place where they have ez quick access? I can do just about anything mechanicly. Just need the first time info. Sorry for the newbie questions, but I know I can get the right info here. Thanx everyone, any and all info for this will be greatly appreciated.
