I have a Mercury 110 with a TON of crankshaft end play. So I pulled the motor, split the case and it looks like the goof who owned this motor before me has replaced the crankshaft bearings with metric bearings. *** 6204 bearings to be exact. The friggen bearings slid right off the crank shaft.

So just to be sure, Mercury uses Imperial sized bearings correct ?

Also does anyone have a crank bearing kicking around that they could give me the ID and OD so I can get a replacement locally.

Looks like this is bearing i need http://www.iboats.com/GLM-21625-repl...view_id.459263

6200 series bearings are popular in most everything one uses. I don't have the specs in front of me but I doubt they are metric as I encountered them in equipment long before the import/metric craze hit the US. Some are open as the pic you show and others are full of grease and have a dust cap (seal????) on both sides.

Bearings are supposed toslide on/off like they did.The 6204 is the correct bearing and same as the GLM item you posted...

Yes 6204 is the factory correct bearing , and yes they do slide on the crankshaft with ease.

thats a real head scratcher then, I assumed these bearing were an interference fit bearing.
What else would be causing the up and down play that I am seeing in the crankshaft ?

first, not all bearings are created equal. there are various fits within the 6000 series.

How much was a ton of end play? The end play is controlled by shimming upper end cap and end play spec is .004-.012 which I set all my rebuilds at .010.

oh about .05, you could deffintly feel it clunk up and then back down. Are these bearings shimmed from factory ?
