Hi - would like to know anyone's thoughts:
Older bow rider, 1980 with a merc 115 on it. Battery tested fine with hygrometer and voltage, although it is of dubious condition as it was most certainly frozen for at least one winter but has been deep cycled and seems fine. After a season of working ok, original starter start to click and spin in spring so replaced it with rebuild. The new one fits perfectly with the rubber stops etc. from the original. However new one just spins up to flywheel but doesn't engage. But I am questioning if the bendix is being stopped by the length of the starter shaft? It seems a little shorter than the original? Am I just seeing things or should I just replace the battery rather than get another starter?
One more thing - boat is 3 hrs away so trying to gather info so I can get what I need for next time I'm up
Many thanks
