hello..im new to this forum ( as well as to boating ) and was wondering if anybody could answer a question for me. I have a 1989 searay 180 bowrider with a merc 135 2 stroke on the back. when i first start out and bring the power up to about 2000 rpms i get an intermitent beeping alarm (book says its oil senor) but the oil tank is just under 1/2 full. this happened the last two times on the lake. I run the engine at low speed for about 10 minutes and then no more alarm..can someone please tell me what this is all about!! also how can i confirm if the oil is actually being injected into the engine..there is no gauge or needle..i am one of those people who need to see some type of number (sorry im in avaition..its my nature!!)

Re: mercury 135 alarm

Are you sure its not the temp - over heat alarm? 2000 RPM for an outboard is a dangerious range, 1500 or below, or 3000 and above the temp is much lower. Hope this helps.

Re: mercury 135 alarm

i will guess you have small oil pump driven off crankshaft with 2 wires. this sensor reads rotations of oil pump. normally sensor did'nt fail but the worm gear did it's no big deal to remove oil pump then pull worm gear shaft out while rotating i hope this is not the cause of alarm but is't peace of mind knowing.also check fuel filter for water.
