Mercury 150 Outboard take off issue !

I have a 1998 Mercury 150 HP Offshore outboard. The motor is loosing power at take off. I see that weight makes a difference in how much longer it takes to take off. It looses power all the way to shutting down if the throttle is not pulled back and tried to take off little by little until power is gained. Help.......

I'll bump your thread up so the experts can take a look at it. It sounds fuel related and your runnin' lean which is not good at all for your motor. I would recommend you do not run her until you get this resolved, it could get expensive. Hopefully it's something simple like a fuel pump rebuild. Good Luck.

Is it a EFI or carb engine?

Man you're going to have to get on that diet.

Seriously, it's pretty hard to give serious advice for a mechanical problem when we don't know what machine (engine) is having trouble.

it's a 1998 Mercury 150 HP "Offshore" 2.0L V6 with carbs.

I would check the fuel system for a restriction such as water seperator filter clogged,engine filter,defective primer bulb,anti siphon fitting and if grey fuel lines replace them.

Water separator filter, grey fuel lines and primer bulb were replaced last Feb. Engine in line gas filter was replaced two weeks ago.
