mercury 18 ignition clicks

[8ft speeder]

I have an 18 horsepower merury. I put my ignition on the dash and hooked it up. I got a brand new battery but when I turn the key the engine just clicks. Wats wrong? <br /><br />Also I need to know were I can get a new or used control box.

Have you tried jumping straight across the selenoid to see if the starter is good? When you moved it, did you make sure to use heavy enough wire? Have you checked all your wiring for corrosion and good connections? <br /><br />Check ebay for a control box.

Hey Adam, did ya make sure the battery cable (red) is Connected on one side of the solenoid with the other side of the soleniod connecting to the starter? Then make sure the ground cable from the battery is grounded to the block or starter. The soleniod must also have a ground on one side of the small post, and the other small post goes to the ignition switch.<br /><br />As Nathan said... try and bypass the solenoid and see if it will work then.
