Hi
I've just replaced the impeller on my 3.6hp Merc, serial number 9286513, and it still appears to be overheating.

I took the cylinder block cover off and cleaned the water passages, then I removed the exhaust plate and did the same. Still the motor overheated. Then I removed the power head and cleaned what water passages I could see. I blew up the water tube and there didn't appear to be any obstruction. Still the motor overheated

Is there a thermostat on this motor? If so, where is it! My manual doesn't show if there is a thermostat  , but that's the only thing I can think of that it can be.

When the engine is running, there is a very fine mist of water spraying out of the exhaust relief holes on the drive shaft housing, but sometimes even the mist stops. I'm sure the motor is overheating because the cylinder block becomes almost too hot to touch, even for a second, and it smells as if it is running way too hot.

I'd really appreciate any advice on this one as I'm stumped!

Thanks in advance
Steve

O.K. Panic over!

I had another look at the manual and saw that there is an adapter plate between the powerhead and drive shaft housing! When I removed the adapter plate from the powerhead, I discovered the remains of the last impeller blocking all the water passages!

Motor now runs nice and cool.

Happy days ;o)
