Hello there all. I am new to this and just getting into boating. Building a little 14ft boat and just bought an outbaord for it. I'm an engineer and don't mind getting my hands dirty at all
My first problem is the ID plate numbering has worn off and i don't know what year it is but what I do know is it's OLD. It might be a 'redband' I thought BUT now the thing is half in bits I have just noticed it's not on points but a magent/stator affair with a couple of capacitor's which i thought would be a bit advanced for the 60's? the flywheel has a couple of magnets in it too so unless someone knows something i don't ( likely!) can I conclude it's not made in the 60's?
My main two biggest problems are :-
1) Gearbox - stuck in reverse ( i knew this when I bought it). To try and find out whats going on I thought I would remove the lower section. Using lots of propane, WD40 and a good sized hammer I have removed the two bolts at the rear and the two nuts at the front . I can seperate the rear part but the front is stuck fast. It's still in reverse so is that whats stoping it?
2) How the ***/*&$& do I remove the engine. I have undone (ground off!) the nuts below the lower cowl and cannot see any more. Is it some sort of interference fit to the leg or am I an idiot? It's stuck fast so perhaps someone has been here before and can advise me.
3) Parts - I will need a set of remotes at some point if I get it going. I am in the UK so does anyone have a set stashed somewhere or can I re-hash any old set?
Other than the issues above it appears to be salvagable depite having rat and mice droppings inside, dead spiders, snails and who knows what else. It's freed off and looks pretty complete. Anyone know where to find parts should I need any? Can I post a picture here so someone can ID it for me?
Thansk for reading
