Wrote yesterday to inquire about a overheat problem and my trouble seems to be growing. Installed a new water pump and changed the oil and filter (trying to correct the overheat problem) went for a ride and still overheating at higher rpm so we cruised nice and slow for about an hour. i now have more water than oil in the engine... what is going on. is it possible the new pump improved my water pressure but began forcing water into the engine somewhere? any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Nothing new here. Major design flaw with the power head. I have a 115 4 stroke. Mercury has spent approx $1500 on my water / oil issue. I am currently in a class action law suit.

What seems to be the location of the water entering your oil?

Re: Mercury 40hp 4-stroke water in oil...

Hi, Whit I have a 60hp 4 stroke efi outboard with the same problem I brought my motor in Australia brand new in 2002 in 2005 was the first time it happened now in 2009 it happened again and they told me that every three years I have to change the head gasket at our expense they reckon that it is written somewhere in the fine print in the warranty section what a joke. Mercury fixed it once under warranty so they have emitted fault now it has happened the second time they don't want to know about it as know they cannot find the first warranty claim but I have the receipt showing that it was fixed under warranty. So I too are taking out a law suit. Yes they sold us a LEMON Too.....
