I have searched through your pages but am still at a loss to which type of engine I have. I recently purchased my first boat with a mercury 50 hp approx 20yrs old, haven't managed to locate the model number yet. It looks pretty similar to the 50 with the blue background behind the lettering but mine has got brown stripes behind them, It's a 4cyl two stroke. I don't have a manual so I ask if anyone knows the model and the correct pre-mix ratio? I would also like to know if they are a good engine or not.. Thanks

Sounds like mid 1980's. You won't find a model number. There should be a serial nomber. That's what Merc uses for identification. Generally, those are great motors. Gas:Oil=50:1. That basic motor was made for decades.
