I bought a used boat with a 1981 mercury 50hp outboard on it and I'm just wondering if it would have a generator on it or some type off magneto to charge the batteries when it's running. Thanks for the help

Re: Mercury 50hp charging questions

Check your serial #.Dont think they made a 50 hp in 1981.
Stator and rectifier should be on your model and they do the charging.Battery should be a marine battery so you can service/refill chambers as unregulated power can burn off the battery fluid.Battery should be fully charged before you use it.Not a good idea to let the stator charge it from a low charge.

If you look at the parts list which I sent you in your previous post under ELECTRIC COMPONENTS, you will see the rectifier, item 1 and the stator is item 8 under FLYWHEEL, IGNITION COIL AND SWITCH BOX.
