If you want to check for fuel starvation, the below linked threads discuss this subject in great detail, which may be of help to you. If you do have a fuel starvation situation, you want to find out quickly and fix it before a lean mixture causes serious engine failure. If you eliminate fuel starvation, then you might consider other causes such as dirty carbs or ignition failure.

That motor is a 1989, built in Belgium as you noted.

Warming up and slowing down could be a sign of overheating. Make certain you have a good strong cooling circuit.

Sounds like you might have a fuel pump gone bad, or a dirty carb with plugged main jets.

On your next trial, have an assistant squeeze the fuel bulb while underway to see if the symptom still exists. If it doesn't do it anymore, suspect the fuel pump.

Not a bad idea to clean and adjust the carbs anyways, if they have not been done in a while.

hkeiner pointed to some other ideas, worth checking.

Good luck.
