On a coldish night i started up my motor to see if it would start (checking battery).. Because my boat sat un used for a month.

I put my hand over the peehole stream which as you know in older motors like this isn't a ninja spray like in the newer motors but more of a constant blurting of water. It felt not cold but a tiny bit warm definately warmed up compared to what it was out of the hose but then again the motor had about 5 minutes to warm up. Is this normal or should the water coming out be very cold? It wasn't hot or steaming is was actually very very veryyyyyyyyy well below luke warm

Also does anyone know the Cubic Centimeters of my motor?

Thanks Guys and Gals

I think it is normal for that water to be warm sometimes. Mine is cold and then it gets warm from time to time.

Hey man. That little stream of water is what cools your engine off. It works like a car except it uses the lake as a radiator. It sucks the water from the prop area, cerculates through your engine cooling it off, and blows it out the peehole. Thats why its warm.
Try putting your hand under a pee hole on a 454 ford engine inboard raceing motor after it has ran for an hour.
Dont ever run your motor without water running through it though, it will be like running your car without radiator fluid.

y2j

I have a 82 Merc 50 4 cyl and when I run it through the muffs, the water begins to warm
up out of the "Pea Hole" after a while, but doesn't get hot. So if your's is staying cold, I would say that your water pump is doing a good job to get the water through the head quickly and you don't need to worry. Only worry when it gets too hot to touch...
Don't know the cc's off hand, but I'll check my Clymer and get back to ya..
