I have a 1995 Mercury 75hp. The last time I had it on the water was in mid to late October 2005. I winterized it and parked it over the winter. We had a very mild winter here in Nebraska. I went to get everything back in shape last week and when I tilted the motor up, it would glide right back down again. I raised it and proped it up with a board and checked the resevoir and it was OK. I then thought I would cycle the thing up and down a few times, and that seemed to do the trick, it works fine now. What would cause it to bleed down like that, a stuck valve somewhere I suspect. What can I do to preclude that from happening again. I fear it might do it again at a time when I can least afford to have it happen. Would it help if I changed the fluid in the tilt/trim unit? I have never done that. Thanks in advance for any responses.
