Went fishing last night and my motor ran fine with no problems. After fishing for a few hours went to start her up and nothing, she would turn over but thats it. I pulled a plug wire and a coil wire to check for fire and again nothing. Can someone give me any suggestions on where or what to begin looking at/for? Oh, she is a 1996 90hp Mercury ELPTO.
Thank you!

Laddies,
Thank you very much for the system test! Can I ask you a big favor? Could you please email it to me, the print is so small when I print it out I can barely see it, if not I understand... One other thing where or should I say how do I check the kill switch?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Steve I would except I am not a computer person and don't know how. Maybe if you print it that will help.

No problem, I did print it but it was very small. I did save it to another file and I can enlarge it there! Thank you again! So how do I check the kill switch?

When you unplug the black yellow wire from the harness that will take care of all switches in the system but the kill switch I was taking about is the tether switch on the box or dash.

Re: Mercury 90HP with no Fire?

I had the same problem,no spark, same motor even, but a 1991.And after trying
this and that to no effect ,I searched this forum and posted a couple of questions and was given that ignition test list and it scared me,but the thought
of no boat for the summer scared me more so I read the instructions very
carefully and began to understand the terminology and followed the steps
in order.Sad part was a bad stator ,and the only way to
find the problem is by elimination and that list is how to do it,either you
follow it or the tech at the marina will. Also it does sound like a lanyard switch
pulled and it is the easiest thing to checK,does your controller have a switch
and is it down,up is run.also having a manual for your motor is a very good idea good luck

oldtruckface,
I picked up a service manual today. And I started checking things out and it looks my stator is the problem as well. I do have a kill switch but it is in the run position. Thanks for the help!
