I have a 1988 135 mercury.I have been told that the only difference between the 135 and the 150 is the carburetors. Is this correct?( larger venturis)
If this is correct .How do I make sure when buying a different set of carbs that I am buying 150 carbs and not another set of 135s?

On the 1988 it is, and the venturi size are all the same in the WH series of carbs. The difference is the emulsion tubes and internal passages. You will need a set of WH40 carbs to make it a 150 and you might pick up about 1000rpm on top end.

Re: Mercury carbs

I think WH41's or 41A's off an XR4 would do it also.

Re: Mercury carbs

I purchased two sets of carbs for my 135 twins.I ended up with one set of WH41 and one set of WH41a.
I installed new needle and seats and gaskets after a good cleaning.
I am also installing a set of boyesen reeds and they say go down two sizes on the idle jets to richen it at idle .
Will this set up work? Will they work as jetted or should i change anything ?
Both sets have different size idle jets.Should I put the same size in both sets
Thanks
Tony

Re: Mercury carbs

The reason you rejet Boyesen reeds is if engine is lean it will burn/split the tips of the primary(small)reed causing their failure. You are better to go with a 1 piece fiber reed by Chris Carson(CCMS),Tony Doukas or Merc. If you use the Boyesens drop 2 sizes no matter what was factory installed.

Re: Mercury carbs

From what ive heard the power increase is minimal and not worth the hassle and $$$.I see you already have the carbs,so good luck and very interested to hear the result,as we have same engine.
