been sitting for few months. (mariner and not mercury as i wrote in the title-edited)
used to lift by hand. trim not working.
now is stuck. not moving up down or to the sides. teleflex cable was cut!

I got the engine at this condition.
got the old teleflex cable out. greased the area and now it is moving.

but, when taken out the pole (dont know the name-see picture) to grease it found part of the teleflex still inside. see tip of the cable xoming out of the pole. trying to put power and take it out it was stuck and not being able to take it out,

1) how should i take it out? stronger force to pull it out? screw it out?

2)engine still stuck and not moving up and down. it has rust on hinges.
started with WD 40 3-4 times then grease. used the tool that is in cars to lift car up for changing wheels (sorry i dont know the english name) inorder to do a contra and lift the engine up.
I managed to lift it with this but also taking it down needed alot of power by me.

I repeated this process twice (with greasing with spray all the time) and it seems abit easier but it is still hardly moving and needs alot of power. I doupt it is the tilt making this problem so i guess it is the hinges!

hope i am doing the right thing.

in addition, taking down the impeller to replace it i did not found the small cylindrical part that goes inside the impeller. could that be o.k.? or should i buy this part along with the new impeller? the impeller gas the vent inside to take this part.

so, three questions:

1)pole with teleflex cable inside

2)engine stuck

3)impeller lscking the cylendrucal part

any help from you will be adeeply appreciated.

Ayuh,.... You need to get the rest of the steerin' cable end, Outa the tilt tube, yes...

If the tilt hinge is Rusted solid, it needs to be freed up, 'n cleaned, 'n greased...

'n I have No idea what yer talkin' 'bout in #3...

Post a picture...

Get a new impellor as the ring that fits inside it is what drives the impellor. Be sure all the old impellor parts are removed when servicing it. As for the steering arm if you can,t pull it one way then push it out the other side to free the tilt tube for cleaning ans greesing. You may have to move the motor over somewhat to get it all the way out. And as far as the swing arm old greese gets hard and makes the turning bind. Disconnect any fuel lines and empty the carbs. Wash the egine down as best as possible and you must be very careful (CAUTION DO NOT OVER HEAT AS THE MOUNTS WILL MELT!!!). Have a fire extinguisher ready. Use a typical torch and heat the outer area where the streering pivot arm is and this will help loosen the greese. You may have to do it several times before it is usable. The best thing to do if this is the problem (Steering Pivot Shaft View attachment 179844 ) Is to remove the powerhead and undo the upper mounts and then unscrew the lower mount through bolts. Remove the midsection and then romove the yoke to get the steering pivot arm out and do a proper cleaning. As for the tilt things sound pretty rusted and corroded. PB Blaster is the best thing i know of to get things moving again, JMO View attachment 179845 USING A TOURCH NEAR FUEL IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL. Proceed at your own risk.

Re: mercury engine not moving

Dear people

Just now have i came from my workshop on the engine. It is free finally:pride::rockon:
I was not dare using heat with fire and did not have the tools. I used the car tool that lifts the car to replace flat tire. I took off the trim and tilt system to be sure they are not the cause of the problem and to send them to an electrician because the trim does not work from the beginning. I did use the car lifter a few times and during which I poured WD 40, found 4 holes I assume lead directly to the problematic area. then It became loose abit then I was able to move the engine with my hands but with alot of power (my back abit hearts) and then It became as smooth as I would like it to be. this process took me a bout three days. using a car lifter to lift the engine up was a slow thing and was hard at each stage of the engine angle to find good points to attach the car lifter. each angle demanded different positioning of the lifter.

though it was better than using some people or some machine to drag the engine because with lifter the pressure stays internal in the engine while if some people try to pull the engine the whole pressure would go to the stern where the motor is attached-that is I believe a risky point.

many thanks for your help......

and as for the ring of the impeller I found it and put it back.
