I have a 1990 mercury 90 horse 3 cylinder. I had taken the carbs off of this to clean them, I got everything back on, and my problem is, the motor can be setting there idling, and then all of a sudden you will hear a pop type of sound, and on the tach it loses about 100 or 200 rpm then it goes back to idling, then you might hear it again.

Does this sound like a mixture setting wrong possibly? I backed out of the idle mixture screws the 1 1/2 turns like it says, but haven't had it in the water to do the rest. Or does it sound like something else?

I checked to see if any fuel was coming out of the carbs, and that seemed to be ok, almost seems more like possibly an exhaust pop. Thanks

Your are probably getting a lean pop and it should clear up after you get it in the water and do the final adjustments.
