I have a 1993 Mercury 60 hp outboard #od211448. I bought it used and have gone through it with the manual and have gotten it running. I have timed, synced linkages and set idle needle valves. It starts very easy and under load in the water, it will run up to about 1,100 rpm. When I try to push the throttle faster, it tries to die. If I bring the throttle back it continues to run. I ran it on the lake for about 2 hours at 1,100 rpm and it ran without missing or having anyother problems noticable. This motor has the "red stator upgrade" which means it does not have the low and high speed windings. I removed the three carbs and they looked very clean inside without any sign of deposits or material in the jets. I have new gaskets for these and will be reassembling them. If, when I am running at 1,100 rpm, I push in on the fuel primer solenoid (key switch), I can increase the throttle to achieve about 2,000 rpm. I checked the fuel pump pressure and it met specs. I am wondering if someone either put the wrong carbs on or if they put the wrong jets in the carbs (.062 main jets with .090 vent jets). I saw a site once that had a decoder for the numbering system on the WME carbs that told what the date of MFG and the number of the carb model is. I cannot find that site. I do not know how to determine what model WME carbs these are. If I knew that, I could find the proper jet size from the manual. This acts to me like it is not getting enough gas. I checked all the fuel hoses and found they were clear. I replaced the fuel filter with the proper Mercury replacement. I am using fresh 87 octane gas in a new gas tank (no restrictions to flow). I pumped up the gas line feed bulb while running the motor thinking the fuel pump was faulty and it pumped up rock hard but had no affect on the operation. I plan to connect a timing light to see if, at the drop out speed, I am losing spark.

Anything you can suggest to try next will be very much appreciated.

I not sure what years but some mercurys have a fuel line problem at or around the fuel pump. They had to install a spring in the fuel line to keep it from collapsing. I thought I may mention this to you. Like I said not sure if it pertains to your model. somebody may can tell you if this could be your case. Good Luck, Tim

Adjust the air bleeds. Initial adjustments can be done while tied to a sturdy pier. Final adjustments can be made on the water.

Thank you for your response. I am obviously a novice since your statement to "adjust the air bleeds" confuses me. The only thing on the carbs that I have seen that bleed air are the vent jets which are .090 at this time. Do you mean change these? I think the carbs are WME 45's.
