Mercury Power trim unit,Do you bleed them?

I took my unit off because of problems and cleaned it up,and now it gets power..When i fill it back up do you have to bleed them? Or just fill it and go?

Its a 88 Mercury 115.. Thanks

Raise and lower it several times. They are self bleeding.

sry, saying it that way maybe confusing.. the hyd cyl should be fully extended out and fill the pump to the marked level. careful not to over fill it

yes, fill to the bottom of the oil filler hole.. not sure what the red fluid is...
my book says to use MS, SD,SE,SF, 20W or 5W-30 or 10W-40 OIL. if you wait awhile more people is sure to help,,, don't think would be good mix

Pretty sure that unit needs ATF - check your service manual.

Book says use 10W-30 or 10W-40 auto oil. SAE 30 may be used in the tropics.

Thanks, Motor oil it will be.. I guess i have to get all the red fluid out..

I've got a 50 horse of the same vintage that calls for Dextron III transmission fluid in the tilt and trim (i'm guessing that is what the current red stuff is)
