I was just finishing up a repower/rewire on my 13' boston whaler with a used '99 Mercury 50hp four stroke. when disaster struck, i accidentaly touched the battery cables to the battery reverse and they sparked. when i resolved the problem the engine started but the tach dosent work and the choke is stuck on. i know this isn't good but i was looking for some advice on what i cooked.

thanks. gunnar

First off,I would remove all cables to the battery.Let stand for an hour.Try to connect all cables, put some tape on them and write red,or the others black. Then your positive cables will always be together no matter what happens, and also the negitive ones, then charging batteries is a no brainer, even for your girlfriend or wife to do it,lol.Let all the circuits get all the juice out of them, then try it.Good luck

most often reversing the cables wil shoot the rectifier which is the device that is part of the charging system, also when the tach wire is sometimes attached
